Specific Activities At The Shrine

The worship of the Eucharist

The worship of the Eucharist is a prayer, a dialogue through which one meets Jesus truly present in the Eucharist. It is like looking at Christ face to face. « I look at him and He looks at me » as answered a Christian to whom saint John Mary Vianney asked why he stayed for long hours before the Blessed Sacrament.
Two main reasons justify the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Jesus is exposed for us to contemplate, to pray and to ask him; but on the other hand He also invites me to expose myself as I am so that he can also look at me. He looks at me, I can show Him my poverty of the heart, my spiritual and physical deprivation, my worries etc. « It is pleasant to spend time with him, to lie close to his breast like the Beloved Disciple (cf. Jn 13:25) and to feel the infinite love present in his heart [ …] . How often, dear brother and sisters, have I experienced this, and drawn from it strength, consolation and support! « (St John Paul II – Ecclesia de Eucharistia, 25). Every day at Kabuga, Jesus is exposed for at least one hour (14:30-15:30).

Way of the Cross

The Way of the Cross is a means that our Church offers us to meditate on Jesus’ suffering and obtain the graces necessary to make the way of our own cross. By the Way of the Cross we reflect on our own lives, offering our sorrows and sufferings and associating them with those of Jesus Christ. The Way of the Cross also helps us to understand God’s love and to obtain the force to face our trials. Every Friday at 13:30, you can also join others doing the Way of the Cross at Kabuga.

The sacrament of Penance

Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from the mercy of God for the offence committed against Him and are at the same time reconciled with the Church, which they have wounded by their sins, and which by charity, example, and prayer seeks their conversion (LG, 11). Every day at Kabuga we welcome all those who need the sacrament of Penance.

Pilgrimages

The Shrine of Divine Mercy is one of the places recognized by the Church hierarchy where one can make a devotional pilgrimage to the Divine Mercy. A Christian who comes on pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Divine Mercy with a prepared heart receives plenary indulgence.

The seat of the Movement of Divine Mercy

In Rwanda there are many devotional groups who pray and proclaim Divine Mercy. These groups are commonly known under the name of « Movement of the Divine Mercy » in English and  » Umuryango w’Impuhwe z’Imana « in Kinyarwanda. Its members are often known as « Abanyampuhwe ». These groups are trying to show to people of good will, how to live God’s mercy in a very simple and practical way and witness in our contemporary world.
